What is hej?

hej is an AI-powered chat platform that creates intelligent chatbots trained on your website content. Simply provide your website URL, and we automatically crawl, index, and create a knowledge base that powers your AI assistant.

How does hej work?

We crawl your website to extract content, convert it into vector embeddings for semantic search, and use this knowledge base to power an AI chat assistant. When users ask questions, the AI retrieves relevant information from your content and responds naturally.

Do I need technical knowledge to use hej?

No! hej is designed to be user-friendly. You can set up a chatbot without any coding knowledge. Just provide your website URL and add a single script tag to your site.

What languages does hej support?

hej supports all major languages. The AI will respond in the same language as the user's query, using your website content as the knowledge source.

Setup & Installation

How long does the initial setup take?

Most websites are fully set up within 5-10 minutes. The crawling process takes 2-5 minutes depending on site size, and then you can immediately start using your chatbot.

What types of websites can hej crawl?

hej can crawl any publicly accessible website. We support standard HTML sites, single-page applications (SPAs), and most CMS platforms like WordPress, Shopify, and Webflow.

Can I crawl password-protected pages?

Currently, we can only crawl publicly accessible pages. Pages behind login walls or password protection cannot be indexed.

How do I add the chat widget to my website?

Simply add our script tag before the closing </body> tag on your website. You can find your personalized code in the Studio dashboard under Widget settings.

Pricing & Billing

Is there a free trial?

Yes! All plans include a 14-day free trial. No credit card required to start.

What happens if I exceed my conversation limit?

On Start, Business, and Pro plans, you can purchase additional conversation packs at €10 per 1,000 conversations. On Basic, you'll need to upgrade to continue.

Can I change my plan later?

Yes, you can upgrade or downgrade at any time. Upgrades take effect immediately, while downgrades take effect at the start of your next billing cycle.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) through our secure payment partner Stripe. Enterprise customers can also pay by invoice.

Features & Functionality

How accurate are the AI responses?

The AI's accuracy depends on the quality and completeness of your website content. It only answers based on indexed content and will acknowledge when it doesn't have enough information.

Can I customize the AI's personality?

Yes! The system prompt in Studio lets you define how the AI should behave, its tone, and any specific guidelines it should follow.

Does hej support voice calls?

Yes, voice support is available on Pro and Enterprise plans. It uses OpenAI's Realtime API for natural voice conversations.

Can I integrate hej with my existing tools?

Yes! On Business plans and above, you can create custom tools that connect to external APIs like CRMs, booking systems, or inventory management.

Data & Privacy

Where is my data stored?

All data is stored in the EU on secure servers. We use Supabase (PostgreSQL) for structured data and ChromaDB for vector embeddings.

Is my website content kept private?

Yes. Your indexed content is only used to power your own chatbot and is never shared with other customers or used for training purposes.

Are conversations logged?

Yes, conversations are logged so you can review them in the Studio. You can use this for quality assurance and understanding user needs.

Can I delete my data?

Yes, you can delete your site and all associated data at any time from the Studio dashboard.

Troubleshooting

Why isn't my chat widget appearing?

Check that: 1) The domain in your script tag matches your site, 2) Your subscription is active, 3) There are no JavaScript errors in the console, 4) The script is placed before </body>.

The AI is giving wrong answers. What should I do?

Review your system prompt to ensure it has proper guidelines. Also check that the correct pages are indexed and contain accurate information. You may need to re-crawl if content has changed.

How do I trigger a re-crawl?

Go to Studio → Knowledge Base and click the 'Re-crawl' button. This will update your knowledge base with the latest content from your website.

My site wasn't fully crawled. Why?

This could be due to: page limits on your plan, pages requiring authentication, JavaScript-rendered content, or robot.txt restrictions. Check our crawler documentation for details.
